Back-to-School!: Summer Recap

Ahh yes! It's about that time of year. Football season is around the corner, the weather will be getting cooler, and the leaves will be changing soon. A new class of Bison have been greeted by the festivities of Freshmen Move-In; meanwhile, Bison of classes past have already begun to plan out their homecoming.

While we enjoy the last bit of summer, let's tell you what we've been up to during these last few humid months. Ok, so it's been a while since we updated you. We'll take fault for that. Sorry. You forgive us right? It's still all #BisonLove right? Is that a smile we see creeping across your face? Yes? All is forgiven? Ok! Now that we've gotten all of the formalities out of the way, let's get down to business.

This year's Day at the Races went off without a hitch. The event takes place annually at Baltimore's famous Pimilco Racetrack. The Home of the Preakness. Day at the Races serves as a fundraiser for the club's Mamie Carroll Woodford Scholarship. Furthermore, it's a great networking event for alumni across the DC, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area. The tickets were sold out with over 65 people in attendance. The group enjoyed food, drinks and line dancing. Billy Mickens of Spirit Feet had people out of their seats, learning all of the latest line dances!

The success of Day at the Races meant plenty of funds for our 2015 Mamie C. Woodford Scholarship winners. Yes, plural! This year we named more than one winner. We know what you're thinking. How many winners? Who were they? Stay tuned! We'll reveal the winners right here at a later date.

Next, came the Incoming Freshman Cook-Out. HUACB personally welcomes Baltimore-area Howard Freshmen by hosting a cookout annually. On Saturday, July 18th, we headed out to Belmont Park in Parkville, MD for food and fun. Club members also revealed the winners of the Mamie C. Woodford Scholarship during the cookout. There we go again, mentioning those scholarship winners. We're going to tell you, we promise!

That brings us to present day. The club's first Fall meeting will take place Saturday, September 12th at the Enoch Pratt Library Free Library, 6310 Reisterstown Rd. Baltimore, MD 21215. We'll have plenty to discuss! Our new administration will be taking the reigns as we prepare for The Nation's Classic and Homecoming among other things. We look forward to seeing you!

Speaking of the Nation's Classic... Howard University takes on Hampton Institute University Friday, September 18th, 2015 at RFK Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30pm and we plan to be there! Are you coming with us? We'll keep you posted with the details. Email us or join our mailing list to stay in the loop with all things HUACB!
